Heg & The Wolf Chorus - Boat & I

Boat and I is a 2013 single release from Bristol-based Heg and the Wolf Chorus. The band are made up of Heg Doughty on vocals and keyboard with backing vocals, harmonies and instrumentals from Stephanie Taylor, Richie Dobson and Anita Urgyan.

The title track is an appealing mix of sweet medieval-themed harmonies and unsettling, eerie drones, with a distinct and appealing gothic and rather theatrical feel. The storytelling is engaging and accessible, brought to life with a blend of complex changes of pace and tone with a simpler, catchy chorus.

In contrast, the B side track Maiden has a more modern feel, with piano and strings used to good effect. Here again, the strength of Heg and the Wolf Chorus are the excellent harmonies and superb, complex, layered vocals.
