Record reviews & our remit

Posted by Christopher Friedenthal on 23 January 2012

Please note: to be featured on this web site your work has to rooted in the traditional music of the British Isles. While we can be quite broad in interpreting that, your singer-songwriter material (while I’m sure it’s very good) is unlikely to get reviewed unless it also fulfills that requirement. Despite our name, we do not discriminate based on the age of the artist.

Please consider the following when sending your music for review:

  • We are staffed entirely by volunteers and have a finite (but quite large!) capacity. All in all, we review about half of what get sent. This is mainly due to music not fitting our remit (see above). The busier we get are reviews at any given time, the stricter we get with how trad we need things to be.
  • We consider full length albums, EPs and demos for review.
  • We do not review YouTube videos, SoundCloud tracks or other online streams, links posted on our Facebook wall or Twitter feed and/or single tracks in any form.
  • Sorry, we cannot offer private comment or "pointers" on your music. If it fits the above criteria, we’re more than happy for you send it to us for public review.

OK, that’s good. How do I send you my music?

The preferred method of receiving music for review is by DropBox. If you have an account please share the folder with christopher@brightyoungfolk.com. Please do not use WAV files as they are very large.

If you can’t use DropBox, put a CD etc. in the mail to: Christopher Friedenthal. Flat C, Eccles, Hillingdon Avenue, Sevenoaks, Kent TN13 3RA.

What do we need?

Any of the following you can provide us with will help us in reviewing your music.
  • The music!
  • Liner notes & any related press release or backgrounder
  • High-rez packshot
We look forward to hearing from you!
