I like their music, but what’s their problem with being white and playing essentially ’white’ folk music?
Look at any folk music on Youtube and you see that it’s an expression and celebration of the people and culture that created it be it Kurdish, Assyrian, Turkish or whatever.
It seems odd that these people appear to be apologizing for being ’white’........celebrate it !

I don’t think that Eliza Carthy & Simon Emmerson have any problem with being ’white’. It’s just that English and British folk music is mongrel in nature because England and Britain are mongrel nations. NO-ONE in Britain is 100% Anglo -Saxon, so why should our folk music be? All sorts of music has been assimilated into British music and The Imagined Village are a reflection of that.

And the band also reflect that people of different ethnic backgrounds living in Britain can, if they want to, celebrate British musical heritage as their own.

Why is it wrong for English folk music to be "white".The English people are white and so their music will reflect that.
Why is that African folk music is never called "Arthritically black" and urged to accept foreign influence?
Why is it that its only ever white/English music and culture that isnt allowed to make its own rules?

I love folk and I love the whole scene. I play and go to many Folk festivals and I am sorry to say it but...they are like 99% white. The more mainstream non-folk festivals have a bigger diversity but if you go to any local folk nights around England they are mostly white. There is NOTHING wrong with this. It’s not racist and it’s not wrong. It’s just that what happens. I love the influences that IV bring into their music but I don’t get the whole "apologising" lark.

It’s white because it’s music made by white people, in a white nation. Why are you ashamed to be white? Folk against fascism? LOL, you leftists really need to stop being such soft, pious tossers. Britain still is a white nation, just because the government shipped in millions of unwanted people, doesn’t mean the majority isn’t white. Keep it up and in a century this country will be no more, and all of you left wing wankers are responsible.
